Highmark First Night Pittsburgh 2017
New Year's Eve Party
Highmark First Night Pittsburgh, a production of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, is the New Year's Eve event in downtown Pittsburgh that is focused on highlighting local arts.
Culminating with the city’s Countdown to Midnight and raising of the Future of Pittsburgh Ball, the six-hour celebration sprawls downtown’s renowned 14-block Cultural District—inside theaters, galleries, and unique spaces and along city streets on outdoor performance stages. Acclaimed national artists and Pittsburgh’s vibrant artist community ring in the new year for revelers with live music, dance, theater, visual arts, comedy, magic, kids’ activities and a signature parade along with two Zambelli Fireworks displays at 6 pm and midnight.
To highlight key areas, the event called on Noland Jenkins and Vincent Lighting Systems' expertise. The VLS Production team used VARI*LITE VL3000 fixtures to project "2016" and "2017" onto the buildings and the tents. Clay Paky Mythos movers projected break-up patterns onto the building facades, to provide an interesting texture. Along with Sharpy Wash lights, the Mythos fixtures also provided cool aerial effects.
The team dotted the different areas with uplighting, using Elation 6PARs. These fixtures also provided a nice amount of stage lighting, to illuminate the various acts on the performance stages. Lastly, ETC Source Four profiles projected custom gobos to help direct party-goers to the right areas, eliminating the need to print, hang and illuminate signs for the nighttime event.
All of the lighting was programmed and controlled by a High End Systems Hog 4s.
